Overview
This introductory level course provides the student with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to safely handle, load, fire, and clear common semi-automatic rifles. Time is spent both in the classroom and on the firing range in a comfortable learning environment. This is a holistic and comprehensive course designed to introduce students to the world of rifles.

Course Outline
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Apply Safe Gun Handling in any environment (regarding the AR platform specifically)
- Understand rifle parts, nomenclature, and support equipment considerations
- Properly wear and use slings
- Demonstrate the basic fundamentals of marksmanship
- Perform rifle manipulation skills (loading, unloading, clearing)
- Analyze
- Understand and utilize the basic concept of height over bore (offset)
- Properly conduct bolt lock reloads
- Shoot a group using the prone position
- Recognize and apply
- Disassemble, clean, and maintain a modern sporting rifle
Equipment List
- Semi-automatic carbine (provided by SIG SAUER Academy)
- Tuition includes FREE loan of a carbine, magazines, mag pouches, eye and hearing protection
- NO personal firearms
- 3 magazines (minimum)
- Magazine pouches
- Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
- Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
- Clothing suitable for training in any weather
- Shooting gloves (optional based on student comfort)
- Knee and elbow pads (optional based on student comfort)
- Wraparound eyewear with polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription
- Electronic hearing protection, earmuffs or earplugs
Ammo
- Estimated round count: 220 rounds rifle
- Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
- No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
- Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping, New Smyrna Beach, and Colorado facilities only
- For all Colorado rifle courses, please DO NOT pre-purchase rifle ammunition – 9mm will be used
