Overview
This is a 2 day, advanced level defensive rifle course for military, law enforcement, and the responsible citizen that quickly builds upon rifle fundamentals using a progression of advanced defensive techniques. This course utilizes the crawl, walk, run teaching methodology that encompasses a series of drills focusing on quick target acquisition, ready position implementation, transitions to pistol, shooting while moving, utilization of cover, and advanced principles of target acquisition at distances out to 100-yards. Students will leave the course with individualized training goals based on drill data and the ability to reflect on their learning for continued progression.
Experience Requirements
This is an advanced level course. Students should have graduated
Rifle 103 within the last 2 years and be a graduate of
Handgun 104. This course is physically demanding. Students must be realistic regarding their physical limitations as this course requires engaging targets from alternate shooting positions: standing, kneeling, sitting, and prone, and moving between shooting positions up to 100 yards apart. Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Course Outline
- Apply Safe Gun Handling in any environment
- Evaluate appropriate rifle to pistol transitions in a variety of scenarios
- Apply advanced shooting while moving techniques in all directions
- Develop principles for engaging multiple targets with speed and accuracy
- Effectively apply decision making skills to transition from near to far targets
- Adapt principles for engaging multiple targets from behind realistic urban cover at various distances
- Apply the correct hold on the target regardless of rifle orientation from behind cover
- Assess and clear more compound rifle malfunctions
- Effectively collaborate with other shooters while moving to cover and breaking contact
- Assess opportunities for future improvement through multiple exercises that evaluate course comprehension, skills, mechanics, and accuracy
Equipment List
- Semi-automatic rifle or carbine with sling – absolutely NO pistol braces and NO sub guns
- 3 rifle magazines & pouches
- Defensive handgun & 3 magazines
- Belt mounted holster
- Sturdy belt at least 1.5″ wide
- Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
- Clothing suitable for training in any weather
- Hydration system
- Hat with a brim
- Knee and elbow pads
- Shooting gloves
- Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
- Earmuffs and earplugs
Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH, New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Colorado Springs, CO locations.
Ammo
- Estimated round count: 1,000 rounds rifle, 150 rounds pistol
- Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
- No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
- Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping, New Smyrna Beach, and Colorado Springs facilities only
